Hi all,
=09Ok, I tried out xfs, and I think it's the culprit of my woes.. Every =
once in=20
a while (normally when I am typing a very long email - ironically but not=
=20
always..) I hear my hardrive sync and then everything freezes. I have to=
=20
hard reboot the machine to get it back to life. Logs are no use because =
it's=20
infrequent and I'm using metalog which caches the logs to periodically up=
date
=09Anyway the question is how do I go about doing this. My general strat=
egy=20
would be..
=09
=09tar -czlpvf mybackup.tar.gz /=09=09=09=09=09(Can someone verify?)
=09mv mybackup.tar.gz /someother partition
=09
=09Pop in a boot cdrom
=09
=09mk2fs -j /dev/hda1
=09mkdir /mnt/hda1
=09mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
=09mkdir /mnt/some_other_partition
=09mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/some_other_partition
=09cd /mnt/some_other_partitition
=09tar -xpvf mybackup.tar.gz | (HELP)=09=09=09=09( Pipe the contents to /=
mnt/hda1 )
=09fix my fstab
=09Reboot=09
=09Now what about /proc and /dev? What do I need to do to these dirs or =
will=20
this strategy cover them to?
Am I missing anything - I'm a bit nervous..
Thanks
=09
