thats a bug in the hardware/driver response there. I've seen that on a box
here at home as well (one of the roommates uses an nvidia card and switching
from X to console and back will result in crashed video <blank screen>).
not sure what can be done about it. I've tried almost everything I can think
of here. so far, no luck.
