You're talking about Microsoft Windows (tm) right? The one that didn't ship
a format utility from the command line on early OEM versions of Windows 98?
The one that pre-installs so many spooky drivers for a Windows 2000 install
that I can barely see straight? (4 DISKS!!!! What the hell could be on
those!!!)
I understand your point about "some distros do this, some do it this way" but
that's a matter of choice and the simple fact is you CAN switch distros if
one isn't rubbing you the right way. I am on a coffee break from trying to
install 2K on a client's machine right now that "just won't install" and
there's nothing I can do about it but examine the hardware from top to
bottom, burn some incense, and hang wet noodles from my nose in hope's of it
working by some voodo magic.
Sorry if I start a bashing thread and walk away (back to the mines) but let's
not have another "windows does this better" session on this list, because
anecdotes do not make a pattern. I see from your sig that you work in the
computer building/fixing industry. Can you honestly tell me that every
computer you have ever worked on loaded with a Microsoft operating system has
always "just worked" and that you have never been stumped by a problem that
"went away" by rebooting?

PS. That's a rhetorical question =)
