Hi,
I'me new here. I have an install problem and looking for suggestions. I
have installed SUSE 8.0pro succesfully on every computer that I have except
one. The one it does not install unto installed redhat 8.0. I would like
to keep using suse because I am familiar with it so any ideas would be
appreciated.
Hardware Configuration: (It's a computer forensic attack box)
P4 2.4 ghz
512mb
geforce3 128mb
scsi 2940 card
promise ata133 card
firewire usb 2.0 card
usb2.0 and firewire on board
pcmcia pci adapter card
40mb scsi tape drive
ide dvd burner connected to motherboard ide controller
2 maxtor 160gb hd's connected to promise controller
30 mb scsi drive connected to scsi controller.
problem:
During boot up of install cd the kernel hangs at getting infofile.
A detailed look at the boot up reveals that my promise controller exsists
and reads it as ide1 and ide2. It's as if my motherboard controller is not
recognized therefore killing my cdrom and thats why it hangs. I called Suse
with my free install support and as usual, if they can't answer the question
they say it's beyond the scope of the free support. I booted up the redhat
7.3 and 8.0 versions and it sees the all controllers just fine. It reads
the motherboard controllers as ide1 and ide2 and the promise as ide3 and
ide4. The redhat install went perfect. I know what you are going to say
switch to redhat. If it is a last resort then I will, but I am used to
suse, for example file locations etc. Just trying to stay standard.
Thanks,
Ernie Baca
