One of my students is supposed to be bringing her Presario 700 laptop to
the westside meeting next week, so if you bring yours we can try to
figure out both of them at the same time. I couldn't get Red Hat 7.3 to
even start installing (even using a boot floppy), and 7.1 had an even
stranger problem. After I set aside 10GB of free space for the Linux
partition, I began installation, and 7.1 would see the entire disk as a
single partition formatted as NTFS. I repartitioned and started
installation three times, and got the same result every time.
I'm going to try to bring Mandrake 9 if anyone else can bring Red Hat 8
or another distro.
