Subject: Does anyone use an nForce2 motherboard?

I have a MSI K7N420 Pro, which has the Nvidia network card, sound, and the
nForce2 video. There are a few things you will want to do before
installing on an nForce2 mboard.

1. You will need to be running a 2.4 kernel. They really only support
Mandrake 8.1-8.2, RedHat 7.2-7.3, and SuSE 8.0.
2. Use lilo for your boot loader. Grub will fail to boot with some memory
error.
3. Make sure you have binutils and gcc installed. I know, most people
install these by default, but I've been on linux systems that don't have
them.
4. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_nforce_1.0-0241 and
download the kernel source file. Just about anyone who used the pre-built
rpm's had problems, including me, until I downloaded the source and
compiled it myself. This will build the usb, network, and sound
kernel modules.
5. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_display_1.0-3123 and
download the source package to compile the video driver.

I downloaded the packages before I installed and put them on a CD. I
booted into init 3 after the install, compiled them, rebooted and all was
pretty much ok. I did have some strange problems with the sound card, but
I can't remember how I resolved them. Nvidia actually has a linux support
bulletin board on their website that may be able to help with any other
issues you might come across.

I know the install isn't quite plug and play, but I haven't had any
problems with my system.
