svgalib mouse config

I have svgalib set up to use my ps2 through
/dev/gpmdata. It works relatively well, except it
moves at about 40 pixels at a time in 1280x1024. I
fiddled with the options in the svgalib config file to
no avail. What option am I looking for, short of
editing my gpm config?
