Subject: How do I boot into text mode, without X?
Red Hat 7.3 includes a great little program called "switchdesk", also
available in K -> System -> Desktop Switching Tool if you have a default,
full installation. Run it, tell it what WM you would like next time and then
reboot your X Server.

As for Debian, couldn't tell you if they have switchdesk (My deb CDs are in
the mail as we speak ;)
