my thoughts on this:
perhaps he finally realized that in order to be taken seriously as a
"professional" that having long hair may not project the image he was looking
for.
also, if he was wearing something other than the usual "hippy style" clothing
(such as a nice shirt and dress pants), then his appearance would suggest a
true professional at work.
again, just my $0.02 wrth.
