Here's what I discovered in case anyone is interested. Comments & corrections
are welcomed.
1. Mail is under /~Mail (POP3, sendmail, etc.) or /~.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap
(for IMAP servers). Earthlink is still the older POP3
2. KMail filter are contained in the KMail config file
/~.kde/share/config/kmailrc
3. KOrganizer saves in standard iCalendar file format *.ics (see
/~.kde/share/apps/korganizer/calendar.ics)
4. Konqueror bookmarks are a standard *.xml format (see
/~.kde/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml)
5. KAddressbook saves in standard *.vcf format (see
/~.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf)
6. Backing up /~.kde/share/ or at least /~.kde/share/cache, config & apps
should do it.
7. /~.kde is a hidden folder. In Konqueror use "View Hidden Files" or in a
terminal window tpye ls -a
8. All of these file formats are open standards and can be read with any text
editor
I'm preparing this for a friend who is new to Linux & KDE
