I agree the RH problem is management. KDE's web site doesn't name him but does state the a RH employee makes the rpm's on his own time.
I believe it is 1.3 Java that I have installed. At least the up2date says my system is 100% up to date (in their eyes anyway.) I have iso's from Mandrake from early April. ver 8.1 I think. Does Mandrake have anything like the up2date service? If so I may go that direction this weekend.

To cut Bero a bit of slack, he creates the RPMs on his own time (mostly).
RedHat gives him next to no support internally.
Not that that excuses RedHat at all...
As for your java issues with Konqueror, it depends on what version of Java
you are using. You need java 1.3 or better (the IBM version works great
for me). Java support in the upcoming 3.1 (not due until this Fall) is
*much* improved over the 3.0.x series as well.
