Customizing KDM

I've been browsing around http://www.kde-look.org for a few days and
I've seen some great splashscreens for the login and another for logging
out, but I can't seem to figure out how to put in custom pictures. I
looked at the howto they provided for installing splashscreens, but it
didn't work.
