It is recommended so that if one section of the net or one machine is
unavailable, then you still have access to your server.

You may need to make sure that your dns machine is registered with your
registrar- I had to do that with mine.

The bind Administrators Reference Manual contains all you need to know,
although I have to reread sections of it more than once before it makes
sense to me.
The most important sections will be on /etc/named.conf and /var/named to
start.
