In Linux it is. (At least in Red Hat.)

I remember my first encounter with AIX about 10-12
years ago. Everyone was all upset because IBM chose to
make ksh the default shell. Turns out it worked just
great. However, the real Bourne shell was also
supplied, just in case it was needed.
