Many people find their own notes more helpful than someone else's - encourage them to write things down.
I recently tried (with limited success) to teach my mom to use Quicken. In retrospect I wish I would have printed out some screenshots for her ahead of time, maybe with a few notes on them, and provided them for her to take her own notes on.
