sounds to me like either your cdrom drive is fubared or something is up
with
the IDE bus.
try using another cdrom drive.
also, I have mirrors both the mandrake 7.2 and 8.1 CD images here on my
ftp server (pretorian.ath.cx:21 anonymous) You can try a network setup
from here....
