Alright thank you. However, to upgrade the file systems I need to be able
to start the kernel. Somebody, please help if you've had experience with it
stopping on "Freeing up unused kernel memory:"!

It's called ReiserFS. It's a journaling filesystem with FAR greater speed
and stability and ext2, AND ext3. It is used best when dealing with large
amounts of small files (ie: everything in unix). www.namesys.com for more
info. It's also the default FS of a large amount of newer and updating
linux distros.
