When I was in HS punch cards were in use and memory was done with cores. That said, in my kids schools here in the Valley in the 90's, they had nothing but MAC's until high school then a few IBM's showed up but most of the teachers didn't know how to use anything but the mac's. Even in college at GCC there is still about half mac's in the lab. I can't speak for other countries, but here Apple is well known for it's free computers to schools program.

Actually, back in high school (circa 86-90), we had 12 Apple //e's, and
Apple //gs, and over 50 IBM PS/2's (Model 50 something, I believe). Not
one Mac. (Of course, we were maybe 50 miles from one of IBM's
distribution centers.)
