They dont "run slower"... but odds are they wont work at all, or at
best will be somewhat unreliable if you just stick them in. (Provided
voltage is the ONLY difference). However, if you slow down their
access, particularly bus rate (the actual frequency they are hit at)
you may have some success running them undervoltage. I was able to get
5 volt Macintosh EDORAM to work in a 3.3v spot by running it at a
creeping 66MHz with the conservative access timings. On the same
motherboard, I could get 60ns 3.3v EDORAM to work at 83MHz with the
agressive settings.
OTOH, the Macintosh RAM would not function at any speed in my current
motherboard, even 60MHz with the slowest settings. So your milage will
vary by motherboard and perhaps processor choice as well. Not
something to do for a production machine, or something hard to get
into, but just fine for a toy box.
