IIRC, the Amiga 2000 is a simple desktop-ish machine without a harddrive. If
that's the case, I'd say sell it off as an antique (if you've still got the
old kickstart and workbench disks) on e-bay. Those old 2000's can't be used
for much. I've got an Amiga 1000 and a (newer, circa 1995) Amiga 1200, and
the 1000 can't hardly do anything worth much -- the OS is too old, and the
older ECS graphics/sound chipset is a bit dated. AFAIK, Linux won't work on
it, either, because the 1000 and 2000 used the older 68000 breed of Motorola
chips, and the Amiga version of Linux requires at least a 68020 with an MMU.

If you're still interested in doing Amiga stuff, though, I'd say sell off
the 2000, keep the original disks from it (the ROMs in the 1200 have the
ability to run the older 2000 and 1000 software), and go out and buy a 1200
(about $400 from Amiga's resellers). At least the 1200 is new enough to be
able to use the newer hardware.
Amigas are incredibly versitile, and the manuals that come with them even l=
ist
information for building add-ons for them (expansion port pinouts, etc). Al=
so,
if you're looking for power in a computer, Amigas have the ability to use
the PCI bus (=3D use PC components) and G3/G4 CPUs in tandem with the native
68020/30/40 for SMP crazyness.
Okay, I'm done. =3Dop
