removing lilo from mbr was expedient for your problem with booting
windows but entirely counterproductive to the solution to your problem
of being able to boot linux from the hard drive (sans floppy).

I am not capable of telling you how to resurrect lilo on the primary
drive (hda) now that you have removed it but perhaps someone else can.
It may be just as easy as typing lilo but I do not know that answer.
What I do know is that the bios = 0x82 command within lilo is sometimes
necessary when lilo is incapable of locating the /boot directory when it
is on the slave drive on the primary controller.
