Currently, my Cisco 675 does NAT so I rely on it and do not have any
dedicated firewall. The 675 also has a built in dhcp server that supports
several boxes on the internal 10.0.0.* network. I have web access to the
router shut off and use NAT only to allow incoming traffic on ports 25
(postfix) and 80 (apache). I also do the other standard things on the box -
shut off unused ports, use tcpwrappers, etc. I am a programmer, not a sys
admin, but I thought this was adequate. Any thoughts on it in terms of
security?
Anyway, I am looking for a cox-compatible modem that has the same features.
It sounds like the D-Link 701 might do the trick from what David Schwartz
suggested.
