I finally got the FreeBSD to boot . . . and even run.
Of course I was so surprised that the install isn't exactly what was
planned . . . and there are some error messages as it runs some init stuff.
But the important thing is that it boots. I put the hard drive in a new
carrier and changed the boot configuration a little, but don't ask me which
change was critical.
