free (or extremely cheap) pop mail accounts?

well, using uswestmail; is fine for spam catching but I need a real e-mai;l
account somewhere.... anyone onthe list offering pop services that are either free or extremely cheap?

I'd like to be able to check the mail and store locally. uswestmail.net is too slow between messages.
