Yes. Probably. I wound up creating a Linux account for each Windows user,
then using smbpasswd to create their password for Samba. Once that's done,
you're supposed to be able to keep them in sync via the Windows client, but
I haven't tried that yet.
What errors are you seeing?

I spent some time with the Samba authentication documentation before
settling on this approach. There may be others, but this works well enough
for my little installation. On a larger scale, integrating with NT domains
etc. is probably a more workable approach.
