O'REILLY NETWORK LAUNCHES INDEPENDENT JAVA WEB SITE
ONJava.com Provides Development Tools and Resources for Enterprise Java
Developers

O'Reilly Network has launched ONJava.com, an independent web site
focused on enterprise Java development. The new site provides
development tools, resources, and articles for enterprise Java
developers, according to the O'Reilly Network. ONJava.com emphasizes
cross-platform development and peer-to-peer networking between servers,
PCs and wireless devices.

ONJava.com focuses on Enterprise Java applications, including
* Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs)
* Java Server Pages (JSP)
* Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Java
* Java design
* Java with XML
* Java security
* wireless/consumer Java
* multimedia Java development.

ONJava.com includes regular columns on JSP and Servlets, Java Design
and Performance, and EJB2. Current feature articles include "JVM to
..NET: I'm not Dead Yet" by Bradley Kuhn; "Open Source Java: Ant" by
David Thomson; and "JMS and XML: Defining a B2B Content Exchange" by
T.A. Flores. Upcoming issues of ONJava.com will feature interviews and
writing by Java luminaries from Sun, OMG, IBM and The Apache Software
Foundation.

"We're expanding our coverage of Java because it's becoming clear that,
in the age of network computing, Java is the pre-eminent programming
language," said Tim O'Reilly, President and Founder of O'Reilly &
Associates. "In areas from embedded programming to distributed
computation and peer-to-peer computing, Java is ahead of the curve."

As part of the O'Reilly Network, ONJava.com will be an advocate for
open source software development in the Java community. The site will
also cover open source Sun initiatives like the Jakarta and JXTA
projects under the Apache open source license.

The new site will also feature some of the best developers, analysts,
and editors serving in an advisory capacity on our Editorial Advisory
Board. Steve Anglin, Java developer and book editor, is ONJava's
Managing Editor.

ONJava.com complements other O'Reilly Network sites, including XML.com,
OpenP2P.com and ONLamp.com.

O'Reilly & Associates' involvement in Java encompasses ONJava.com, as
well as the upcoming O'Reilly Conference on Enterprise Java, taking
place in Santa Clara, CA from March 26-29. O'Reilly's numerous Java
books include "Java Performance Tuning" by O'Reilly Network columnist
Jack Shirazi, best-seller "Java in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition" by David
Flanagan, and best-seller "Java Servlet Programming, 2nd Edition," by
O'Reilly Network affiliate Jason Hunter.

O'Reilly & Associates has long been respected for its expertise and
support of Java in the software development and IT communities. The
O'Reilly Network team, like O'Reilly & Associates' book publishing
team, is experienced at providing reliable, useful information, as well
as finding and recruiting leaders in the technical community to share
their expertise with O'Reilly developers.

With a user base approaching 4 million, according to sources at Sun,
Java is becoming the standard enterprise development platform for the
Internet. Java's licensees and advocates include such organizations as
Sun, IBM, Oracle, BEA Systems, Apple, Sybase, and Apache.
