X again

Well I was able to get an x screen up (installed some more
fonts). The screen comes up, but no window manager is started.
I have a .xinitrc & .xsession both calling 'icewm' &
sawfish', but neither start NOR complain. Nothing complains,
so I don't know where to look? any help?
