With vim 5.x, try
http://www.erols.com/astronaut/vim/index.html#vimlinks_scripts
and click on "netrw.vim vim5.x". You can
:Nr
ftp://host/path
:Nw
ftp://host/path
:Nr rcp://host/path
:Nw rcp://host/path
etc.
With vim 6.0 several forms of network-oriented file transfer will be
both available and transparent! One will be able to
vim
ftp://host/path
and vim will automatically use <netrw.vim> to read/write the file.
Supported transports include: ftp, rcp, scp, and http.
