I've had great results opening Word .doc files using
Abiword with RH7. I haven't hunted it down to see how big
the app is but it starts up much faster than StarOffice and
doesn't have SA's megalomaniacal tendencies (wants to be
your browser, email client, desktop manager, chef, barber,
etc.)
