In case you did not see "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" last night, you may
wish to sign the petition at their website. They are seeking 350,000
people, or(3% of the electorate) to lend their names to a petition
calling on the government of Canada to make Stockwell Day change his
first name to Doris. (see footnote)

You may add your name to the petition at http://www.22minutes.com In
light of Stock's campaign, I hope you can participate in this exercise
of our democratic right.

Footnote:
---------
One of Stockwell Day's platforms is to enact referendum legislation that
would allow any group who can get 350,000 signatures to force a
referendum on any issue (at the cost of approx. $150 million to hold a
federal referendum). To demonstrate the flaws in this approach, This
Hour Has 22 Minutes is trying to get 350,000 signatures to force a
referendum demanding that Stockwell change his first name to "Doris".
To add your name to the petition, just go to http://www.22minutes.com

Subject: Quote of the day

From: (Quote of the day)

"We demand that the government of Canada force Stockwell Day to change his
first name to Doris."

- comedian Rick Mercer, who is organizing a petition in favour of the
name change noted above.

[The submitter notes: Canada will be holding its next federal
election on November 27. Stockwell Day, leader of the far-right
Canadian Alliance party, has been embarassed by the release of
internal party documents that conflict with his public statements.
One of the leaked documents includes the proposal that a Canadian
Alliance government would hold national referenda if 350,000 voters
signed a petition. In 48 hours, 228,919 people had added their names
to Mercer's petition, found on-line at http://www.22minutes.com/,
which could be interesting if Mr. Day happens to win the election.]
