I got X and sound both working last night. The problem being reported
on the Thinkpad websites with having to hit fn-F7 once after starting X
seems to have been fixed; it comes up like it's supposed to. The MWave
modem is a lost cause for now, from what I've been reading; but IBM has
promised to write drivers some day.
I installed the latest KDE beta. (I've been a Gnome bigot for the
last couple years, so it's been a while since I've seen KDE.) It's a
little too slow for comfort on a P90, but other than that is looking
OK. It didn't put the machine into swapping hell either
(it's got 64 megs RAM). Konqueror wasn't able to browse the web
for some reason though; the error was something like "a view could
not be created for type HTML".
But for the sake of speed I think I'm going to just use FVWM2. Maybe
if I get Galleon compiled on my regular workstation, it will prove small
enough to use on this laptop also.
