Subject: Instability problems with Mandrake 7.0
I think I have to agree, that if I knew how to do most things in command-line mode I'd be much better off. What specifically froze my
system was using kfm to view the directory(with subdirectories and files) I dragged and dropped from an ext2 partition to a vfat
partition. I don't know if there are flaws in that kind of action. I went to /etc/fstab to take a look around and noticed something
a bit odd to me. Why would the /dev/hda8
be mounted to a /DOS_hda7. I suspect the /DOS_hda7 is just a file name used when the naming sequence didn't recognize the swap as a
name holder, I didn't type that in. That was generated using DrakConf | Linuxconf | File systems | Access local drive | Add etc. I
must admit, I do think that GUI is really slick.
After kfm froze I killed my X server and in command mode had no problems viewing the copied directories and files in the vfat
partition. Clearly kfm balks where command line doesn't for whatever the reason.
Oh, I tried to start klyx from the command line, but no file was found. : o(

My fstab file:
# /dev/hda1 is my Win98 partition... not needed by linux
# /dev/hda1 /mnt/DOS_hda1 vfat user,exec,conv=auto 0 0
/dev/hda8 /mnt/DOS_hda7 vfat user,exec,conv=auto 0 0
/dev/hda5 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda7 swap swap defaults 0 0
/mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount fs=vfat,dev=/dev/fd0 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0
