Looks like it isn't actually installed, because there's nothing in the
WordPerfect8 directory you created.

Use locate locatedb to find it. :-) On my system it's in /var/lib/locate.

Well I think you need to try installing again, and this time use
a sane directory name with no spaces in it, like /opt/wp.
/usr/local is the conventional place to put stuff that didn't come
with the Linux distribution, but was installed "locally" afterwards.
But /opt is intended for "packages", and KDE was following this
convention last I knew, so maybe /opt/wp makes the most sense
on your system. Check out the FHS 2.1 or 2.0 documents at
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/ to understand better why the
conventions are used the way they are.
