Try this specifying the path explicitly:
./exp1.o
If it works like that, then that means the pwd isn't setup in your path.
To fix it, edit your ~/.bash_profile and adjust the PATH variable to
include .
exmple:
PATH=usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:. (notice the :. )
