The issue is that PPPoE in theory ads a little more overhead
in to your link. You get like 2-4% less bandwidth than if
you do straight bridging. Also, depending if your router
does PPPoE or not, you might have to have PPPoE drivers
installed for your OS. So, if their is not a PPPoE driver
for AIX you will need to have a PPPoE router in front of
that host.
PPPoE makes management for the ISP easier.
