A question I have...I hear that most distros of Linux install more than is
necessary for a machine to be used solely for a firewall/router. What at
the minimum packages I'd need to install (using RH 6.1) so that I would have
what it necessary to accomplish this? Given RH's "dependency check", if I
merely selected IPCHAINS, would it check to make sure I had everything else
I needed (hardware support, etc.)? I am, too, a newbie and am hacking away
at this, but my machete needs a good sharpening...
TIA,
Tim

Alan,
Another easily configurable firewall/masquerade solution would be Pmfirewall
available from
ftp.pointman.org <
ftp://ftp.pointman.org> or
www.pointman.org <
http://www.pointman.org> . This script configures
ipchains for you with only a few question, and will run magnificently on
linux. It can also be custom configured by an experienced user that wants a
more custom firewall.
