Subject: Which program centers your desktop onto the monitor image?
To answer my own question in case anyone else is interested, the program is
xvidtune.
It only seems to do a temporary centering and sizing of the desktop image
for that session only. However, you launch this program in an xterm window
and after adjusting and "applying" each change to your satisfaction you
would press the "show" button. Now look at the xterm window and copy down
the numbers. If you then search the /etc/X11/XF86Config file you can
hopefully spot the line of numbers that you are using and edit them to the
numbers off the xterm window earlier. I correctly chose the right line by
knowing exactly the frequency ranges for my monitor and the resolution I was
running xvidtune in.
Can't write to the XF86Config file because it's read only? Log in as root.
