Hardware problem or software?

I was surfing from a machine on my home network when the
data stopped coming in. I started getting the following
message on tty1

eth1: transmit timed out, Tx_status 00 status 2019 Tx FIFO
room 3068.

A reboot got it working again. Has anyone seen this
before? The adapter in question is a 3C509. This is on a
Redhat 6.2 box.
