Dunno about simple... the inverter would be the hard part.
Used ones show up now and then at hamfests and electronics junkyards.
Many times an apparently dead one only needs new batteries. (Then again,
more could be wrong... I paid $60 for two that supposedly worked, and
the batteries were bad. Got new ones for both. One is still working
and the other didn't charge its batteries, and I'm not sure if they
are going to recover. So in the end I got a $500 UPS for maybe $250.
Was that a good deal considering it's used?)
