You may want to look in to sftp...it probably works the same way ftp does,
only it encrypts info...just like how ssh/telnet compare.

Werll all of the ftping is going to be done by a custom app. That is why
the secure connection needs to act as a transparent proxy. I found
something at berkely that does this but it is winblows on the server side.
i was hoping to retain Linux on the server side. thansk for the input.
