Actually, I don't know much about the new session support. The only app I'm
using session support in at the moment I wrote my own session support for.
(I need backwards-compatibility)

rock on =)

When I finally got around to having both module and cgi versions of php on
my main box at home, I starting doing away with csh scripts and re-wrote
them in php...just because php rocks. =)

I recently did a program where i created a 'session-like' algorithm, and now
a few people I know are using it...it's cookie free <g>. Mine used php
(3.0.15, I believe), but one person implemented it in perl and another with
jsp...now, at work, I may be doing it in ASP...bah.

What exactly does the new session support do that it didn't in the past,
other than being built in and the benefits that come with that (ie,
speed...etc etc)?

Performance is improved over v3, even without the Optimizer.
Session support is built-in
WDDX functions actually work now :)
There's a handful of additional functionality

Sorry...got the two confused... =)

I've been trying to get to the site for the last few days, but can't...from
work (at ASU). The problem is somewhere within goodnet. At home, works fine.
<g>

I haven't toyed with v4 yet, simply because it's a beta and I don't have a
non-production machine to test things on...so I assume most things are
pretty much the same, plus/minus some functions/support?

The Zend optimizer is free (beer, not recipe).

The Zend Compiler, to be released later this year will be a commercial
product.

Right now the PHP and Zend sites appear to be slashdotted, so I can't get
the text of the optimiser license. (I'm not currently using the optimiser)

What was the deal with the optimizer during the betas? Was it free or did
you have to buy a pseudo-license for it?

First it was, then it wasn't, then it was. All in one day.

The final release of PHPv4 is available. I've been working with the betas
and the release candidates for a few months now. The product is very fine.
