Remarked CPU

Hi,

Does anyone know of any CPU identifiying program or benchmarks I can run
that will /genuinely/ identify what sort of processor I have?

I checked out Freshmeat, and I would prefer that the tool I use NOT rely on
/proc/cpuinfo
