Debian is only behind if you let it be :). Potato is in pretty good shape,
so live on that for now, then change to live on stable when potato is
moved to stable. After that you need only install the things you really
need from the unstable environment. I'm working on a script to do that
pretty easily.
It's great on a laptop because it used much less space and resources, but
debian's laptop support often falls short. I really don't run into
problems once it's installed, but the install can be a pain.
