in need of a computer

Ok can you communicate to the router when connected and set up internally?
If so that is not likely an issue.
If you can connect directly to the modem and you are not getting
connectivity, then there is an issue. Be aware that you need to power off
your modem for 30-60 sec and restart it connected to nothing, then connect
whatever device you want to use. this is a normal cablemodem config
design. however if the same ethernet cable connected to your router sees
the routed and can ping it then you know your ethernet and cable are good.
if you connect to the cablemodem and get no connection then that is where
your issue lies. and that would be a call to your service provider.
