attach XP computer to network fror printing

Force it would be to set "smb ports = 445"

the /24 is for a 255.255.255.0 network. If you're running a 255.255.0.0
network, then it'd be /16. The /## is the number of bits of network
address. Each octet contains 8 bits, and numbers between 0 and 255. So a
/8 would be a 255.0.0.0 network. That leaves the first octet for the
network address and the last 3 octets for the individual address of the
machine on the broadcast segment.

In the case of the network you provided, that would mean that the network
address is 192.168.0, which is how other networks route to you, and then
the last octet is how your machines are addressed. Once the packet makes
it onto 192.168.0 (providing that is correct, of course), then the router
that can talk to 192.168.0 broadcasts out an ARP to see who has the machine
IP.

Then we'd get into route tables, and how they're generated, etc, which
really doesn't matter to a home network, so I'll leave off for now.
