How to shrink a windows partition to make more room for Linux?

Hiya,

Ya, I'm late to this party, I have one question.

  I noticed in the screen capture;
http://upquick.com/linux/xpdiskmgmt.jpg
that ALL the toolbar buttons are grayed out.
New, Delete, Resize/Move, Copy, Paste, Undo, and Apply
None will work as shown there.

I think this is because the SELECTED item is multiple partitions.
"Selected" is indicated by the blue-surround highlighting.
I'm wondering how it got that way?

I'm pretty sure gparted would resize the NTFS partition for you,
And open up a new unallocated space between sda5 and sda6.

It seems weird that your system isn't using primary partitions. That is,
sda1 is just a lable containing logical partitions. The first
partition containing usable data is sda5. The prior 7.8Mb unallocated
makes me wonder if MS has done "something" to hide it's bootloader...
Too late now.

I had the hardest time reconciling these two:
Windoze display (from diskpart.exe):
http://upquick.com/linux/xpdiskmgmt.jpg
The gparted display:
http://upquick.com/linux/gparted1.png

The gparted display has more info. The Windoze DM shows all three
Linux partitions, swap, /home, and /, but not the unallocated space at the drive
begining.

Personally I've given up on M$ products entirely. Too much spooky and secret crap.
