Hi Jamie,

Yes, this the very first class. We are an official Red Hat Academy with
their course work. The expectations for the first class includes people
without ANY PRIOR Linux experience and also people who have used Linux
for years. There are some basic foundational skills/concepts that we
cover throughout this course. I have two basic goals for my students:

They fall in love with Linux
They learn foundational concepts that increase their passion for the
first goal

For people who are grade conscience... to achieve an "A" for class you must:

Hammer home the basic concepts (repeat these until you understand them)
Show up for all labs (Make ups are provided for you)
Time on task (This is the best way to learn)
Tutoring and open labs are free and FUN!
Written tests are for your learning: the completion of each quiz is what
is graded
You grade comes from lab completions: (You perform these until you
understand each lab/concept), attendance and participation. (You also
get completion points for each quiz you complete... The Red Hat
certification exams are NOT written, but hands on!)

(Our Academy places our learning on "hands on learning") We also offer
the RHCT on-site that is less than half the commercial rate.
In order for you to exam with us you must complete the CIS126DL,
CIS238DL, and suggested CIS239DL... these are Academy rules) The
CIS240DL and CIS271DL prepare you for the RHCE. (We don't offer the RHCE
yet) Since our primary focus is providing education and career training;
our Linux classes primarily focus on the IT Industry and not the home
end user... we don't explore various other Linux distros.

Feel free to call me at: 623-935-80777 (My office phone, that rolls to
my cell phone)

I am also planning to attend the Avondale Stammtisch tonight (August 20,
2008 7:00PM at Buffalo Wings & Rings, 2935 N Dysart road, Avondale, AZ
85323) I will be able to answer and questions or concerns)

Best regards,

Randy Larson

I am a new Linux user, where is the best place to start...with the CIS126DL, which just says it is a basic Linux class or with the Red Hat academy...which I know is a program of Linux
