I have been teaching this course to the SLUG group for a couple of
months. We are up to Chapter 10 for this Friday. I would perhaps
have tried to come to that far distant (from Apache Junction) West
Side meeting since clearly I have read it, but I had to take my mother
to the hospital last night for heart issues so I cannot be available.

We have some feedback for the writers of the book but have not
assembled it yet. You are correct that it is in need of some fixes
and corrections so I hope we both get that collected and sent in. As
with most texts it frequently focuses on the easy and less useful
parts. So much so that in places it is downright boring where it
could be good.

The approach we intended was for people to study and do the exercises
and then spend class time more on questions and clarifying
explanations. That worked for us but we ended up with me just going
over each chapter making observations about things they missed or said
wrong and taking questions. I expressly did NOT prepare presentations
for each class. If you do so, I would love to see them.
