Another open-source project management tool that I played around with a
little is Task Juggler (http://taskjuggler.org). It kind of has its own
programming language to input in your schedule and constraints (this may
be more powerful than the simple method that Project uses). It has a GUI
as well as being fully-functional from a command line.
