Okay many of you know that I don't even pretend to know hardware. Well
I'm trying to fix that so I've been reading a lot on Tom's hardware
guide, and hardwareguys.com. I *think* I want the following in my new
computer a Seagate 120 GB Barracuda ATA/ 100 7200rpm hard drive an AMD
Athlon XP 2400+ and the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mother board. But here's where
I get lost. Will the A7N8X support the AMD chip? I mean I know it did
other AMD chips but I can't find anyone who says it supports the one I'm
wanting to buy. Its a Socket A board (I think) but will the 2400+ fit
with a Socket A board? where do I find out? Also the hard drive is an
ATA does that mean I need a special board? If so does the A7N8X fit? (I
think I saw somewhere that it had ATA but I'm not really sure what that
means). The ASUS A7N8X comes with a Nvidia SoundStorm on board. I've
never had a lot of luck with on board sound chips and Linux does anyone
know if this chip is supported in RedHat 8.0? My version of Upgranding
and Repariring PCs seems to be *way* out of date as none of the
technology I'm looking for seems to be included (though its a great
intro to hardware - I have the Linux edition).

Any help out there?
